Cape Cod is a top choice for salt water fishing. It is one of the best destinations for Striped Bass. In addition, Bluefish, Bonito, False Albacore and various Mackerels are available inshore species.
Bottom feeders include Flounder, Codfish and Tautog. Charter boats and larger party boats offer visiting anglers a good chance to catch a trophy. Many respectable fish are taken from shore as well along beaches, jetties and piers.
For the adventerous, bluewater fish can be had many miles offshore. Most notable are Bluefin Tuna, Swordfish and Sharks. Bluefin Tuna can weigh well above 1,000 pounds and can swim at speeds of 50 mph!
Cape Cod is host to a good variety of fresh water fish as well.
Trout, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Pickerel, Bluegill, and White and Yellow Perch live year-round, rent-free on the Cape. Their metabolism slows to a crawl during the cold winter months when ice forms on lakes and ponds.
Many of the ponds on Cape Cod are known as "punchbowls". They were gouged out of the terrain by glaciers that formed the deep ponds a long time ago.
